Match Report - Ryan W.'s: Mirrodin Besieged Pre-release! → ryanwilliamson.net

ryanwilliamson:

Yesterday I attended the prerelease event for Mirrodin Besieged at the Best Western Primrose hotel in Toronto. Going into the event I wasn’t sure how I was going to like the format since the Scars of Mirrodin limited play annoyed the crap out of me with the infect decks, because 10 life just isn’t…

First off i want to thank you for this blog/tumblr, cause Magic The Gathering is awesome :) second, I'm psyched for Beseiged, one thing that is still kind of hard to grasp are white creatures with infect....I would have expected white to pull off some anti-infect or something lol anyways I'm trying to prepare for a draft that my friends and I are planning, any helpful hints as to tackle the draft? only thing i can think of is studying the cards in the expansion and just buying packs to see possible combos...but obviously drafting is way different lol Again, thanks for the blog, and I'm jelly of your last troll :( lol

Thanks for the kind words! Magic is awesome!

Study the cards well. Always think about how to put more permanents on the battlefield.  Keep your curve in mind when drafting.  Combos are awesome in draft, see if you can put together a theme. I’m sure some of my followers also have some tips. What can you add?

Do you ever wish you could just doom blade people in real life? If i had four lightning bolts in my pocket every day...

Take care you don’t run into the guy with Redirect.

Commentary - Tumblr Magnet: The Kamigawa Openings → tumblrmagnet.tumblr.com

tumblrmagnet:

A couple of years ago, I purchased a box of each set of Kamigawa. This was intended to be so my friends and I could crack some packs and have fun with it, but the plans never panned out after the first session, so I had 20-something packs of each just sitting in boxes, waiting for… I don’t know.

It’s not like the set has any real value, outside of a few cards. The money I’ve paid is considered a sunk cost, so anything I get out of opening them is gravy. I -could- just crack the packs, search for the half dozen or so cards that might be valuable and the few others I want to use in Commander and be done with it. However, my experience opening my box of M11 has taught me that, no, I really don’t want to just crack packs. It’s not that interesting after a while. And it becomes a bit disheartening when I don’t crack a single Primeval Titan or Baneslayer…

Interesting read. Love the name of your blog!

Today I've decided to spring for that black/white/blue deck I've been wanting to build for a while. Any tips/suggestions for me when working with this combination?

Well, that’s a bit vague, and I don’t remember you telling me about this one! =/ Sorry about that. What are some details about the deck and its format? (Sounds interesting, I love Esper colors)

primitivepublic:

For the Mirrodin Besieged Prerelease my boyfriend and I played at the Wizard’s Tower here in Ottawa, Canada. First off, I love this set, especially in limited! Nearly every rare is useful and I’m so excited to use card’s like Green Sun’s Zenith, Thrun, the Last Troll, and Glissa, The Traitor in my…

Match Reports - The Space Cavern: Besieged  → spaceyeti.tumblr.com

spaceyeti:

I opened some ballsy rares today. The best of which was a Chimeric Mass (my 5th so far), with a Trinket Mage to match. Pretty cool. Psychosis Crawler was my coolest Besieged rare, and I ended up running it. A Phyrexian Vatmother didn’t make the cut, as I was short the good poison guys by a…

I just wanted to recommend Tappedout.net to you and everyone who follows this blog. It has a good online program that will let you play test a deck. The only problems I had with it is you can't search your deck, but you can just draw cards until you find the card you needed to search for and then put it back and shuffle. You can also use it for practice drafts or even drafts with your friends.

How long have you been playing? You mentioned earlier you were only familiar with more current sets, if so I suggest downloading Magic Workstation. It's really great for building decks/familiarizing yourself with older sets.

I’ve tried MWS, and I didn’t like it much. Plus, can’t play with people on Macs (since it does not have a Mac version). I use Lackey for that. I have done Sealed using it and older cards however, and it is fun. I just prefer a small card pool to draw from when making a constructed deck.

Do you have a MTG Vault account?

No, I do not. Why do you ask?

I finally got that Elf deck together, haven't tested yet but I think this'll work, thanks for the advice a while ago! Land (22) 22 Forest Creature (25) 4 Joraga Warcaller 2 Fauna Shaman 2 Joraga Treespeaker 2 Llanowar Elves 2 Sylvan Ranger 1 Mul Daya Channelers 2 Ezuri's Archers 4 Elvish Archdruid 4 Nissa's Chosen 2 Frontier Guide Enchantment (12) 2 Quest for the Gemblades 3 Canopy Cover 3 Spider Umbra 2 Primal Cocoon 2 Quest for Renewal Instant (2) 2 Naturalize Artifact (4) 2 Elixir of Immortality 2 Wurm's Tooth Planeswalker (1) 1 Nissa Revane Sorcery (2) 2 Nature's Spiral

The Naturalize should be sideboard material. I see this as a fun deck! What do you guys think?

Well, it went well. c: I drew Nicol Bolas and Inkwell Leviathan (which I actually got out in a 40 card deck), and won four out of six matches, and picked Cruel Ultimatum as my prize. It was a great experience. (sorry for ranting, you're the only MTG person I talk to really)

Sorry I didn’t get to your Shard of Alara draft question on time! Glad it went well for you though! Plus, you’ll meet plenty of people here you can talk about Magic to!

Do you have any EDH decks? Do you play a lot of EDH? Or Commander I guess, haha :/

I don’t! I only have newer cards and the idea of singleton 100 card decks is currently boggling. I will get into it at some point, but not the immediate future.
