How to Cheat
For those who are interested, here is an article by Michael Flores about the effectiveness of different kinds of shuffling and how certain kinds of shuffling can be used to stack one’s deck. Flores advises players to avoid these kinds of shuffling and to keep an eye out for others who use them. I didn’t realize there was this much of a science behind shuffling until I read the article. It was rather enlightening.
I completely disagree. While this may be the perfect method of shuffling with a newly built deck, i don’t think it matters much with a randomized deck after play. The examples he gave are great, but the thing is after playing a match (assuming you do like most) youll have a land pocket at the top of your deck (land from last match) and the rest fairly distributed. If you shuffle like that the pocket will get evenly distributed, the rest will be distributed in a chaotic fashion.
5 pile shuffling is great to ensure some type of consistency but it is an extremly far cry from cheating.
Read on. I normally use 7+ (usually 11) shuffles (since Magic has 60+, instead of 52). Won’t matter if you have a land clump from previous matches.
Also, “ensuring… consistency” is cheating. It’s called random for a reason.

The reason it matters is because it is a rule. When you present your deck, you are presenting it as perfectly random....
