Remember, it’s not the counterspells that are killing you.
It’s the card draw keeping that player’s hand full of counterspells and getting deeper for answers that are. Think about it this way:
The incomparable value of cards
Counterspells, by and large, are most of the time one-for-one on value. Counterspell’s values are only determined by what they hit if successful.
But card draw is great! It gets you deeper into your deck. It’s generally valuable for any color, more so outside blue because the other colors (aside from green, sometimes black) rarely get it. Of course, it has the same value problems as counterspells - it’s only as good as the cards you drew. But here in lies the incomparable value, the value that really can’t be assigned a numeric value:
You generally have no idea where your answer is, but you know you are closer to it than the other guy if they’re only drawing a card per turn.
