Planeswalkers Unite! - The Registry

Attention all Planeswalkers and Planes-tumblrs: This is an important message for you!

As part of our ongoing Planeswalker Project, detailed here, we’re creating a valuable community tool. Called “The Registry,” it is a directory that aims at locating every Magic: The Gathering or MtG-related blog on Tumblr.

The Registry is divided into four sections. The first chapter is for blogs that discuss or promote Magic in detail and focus, as their primary or one of their primary functions. For example, the flagship magic blogs like MTGfan, Magic meme blogs like MtG Confess, or generic fantasy gaming blogs like IHitItWithMyAxe! would belong in this category. The second category will likely be the largest. It is for personal blogs of individuals with an affinity for Magic: the Gathering. If you’re reading this, odds are you like Magic. If you’d like others who share similar interests (such as, uh, Magic!) to be able to find and follow you, this is where you belong. The third category is for the myriad of actual Planeswalkers masquerading around Tumblr: Urza, Bolas, Ajani, etc. You might have seen them bickering with one another incessantly on your Dashboard. The fourth category is WotC/DCI employees. For now, to our knowledge, that includes just Mark Rosewater and Aaron Forsythe. In the future hopefully this will include more people.

Obviously this task is daunting. We architects of the Planeswalker Project are calling on your aid. It’s simple! Reblog this post and include your Tumblr address at the bottom along with which section you identify with most. We will be tracking the reblogs to find you all, sort you all, and unite you all. Because we want to follow you, we want others to follow you, we want you to follow us. We want you to find more friends who enjoy Magic so our game and community continues to thrive. Because that’s what Tumblr is about. And because, really, that’s also what Magic is about - It is the gathering after all!

The blog is growing, the community is coming together! Thanks guys and gals. I’ll continue to post things worth reading. Feedback from my followers is always great, and keep on spreading around the stuff worth reblogging!

I’ll use this 200th post to note that the handful of us working on it have been making progress on the Planeswalkers Unite! Project I wrote about a month or so ago. Space is being created, design is under way, and we’re eventually going to need all of you to fill it with followers, articles, images, decklists, etc. We’re looking at having a legitimate league with stats and rankings for our arena. So stay tuned!

Thanks to MTGFan, Vedalkengurl, fuckmonogreenelves, pordapod, the rest of the Thirst For Knowledge crew, and all you folks I keep reblogging from. You guys make it easy for me to look good.

Planeswalkers Unite!: A Tumblr Project

Listen up, those of you Magically inclined! A few of us are laying the groundwork for a large project, full of epic win. It’s something of a collaboration and a collective, a single, unified gathering place for MTG on Tumblr. Its functions are in the formative stages, and its form is fledgling. We envision things such as:

  • a library of articles, decklists, podcasts, videos, and other information relevant to Planeswalkers like you and me
  • a showcase for other use-generated content (art, videos, whatever else)
  • possibly an actual relationship with WotC personnel
  • a means to find and connect with other MTG players/Planeswalkers across the Tumblrnets
  • The Arena. A primary focus of this new Planeswalkers’ sanctum, a venue where you can actually play Magic against your Tumblr friends in real-time online. We’re exploring the possibility of sanctioned, rated, official Tumblr-staged MTG tournaments (we have a judge on the staff after all!)

We’re excited about this idea, and if you are too, Reblog this post so we can gauge interest and to help us spread the word. Planeswalkers Unite!
